PATTERN REVIEW: MCCALL'S PATTERN 7627

HAPPY INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY!!

You Are Amazing, You Are Beautiful, You Are Smart, You Are A Child of God, and You Can Do Anything You Want to Do!! This is what I've always believed and lived by, thanks to some of the amazing women that have looked out for me all through the years. And this is what I try to instill in every girl and women around me. We have to continue to empower each other not matter what.

Empowered. This is what I felt when I wore this top. I literally felt like I could conquer the world, especially after tackling those sleeves. The top is absolutely beautiful and I was glad to finally use this print that I have kept for years.

PATTERN REVIEW: M7627

Pattern Description: Misses' Wrap Tops and Dresses with Waist Tie. Fitted tops and dresses have sleeve and length variations.

Pattern Sizing: I cut out the Pattern Size 14 (I should have went smaller).. I think the size runs big a little, especially in the bust area.

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the website once you were done sewing with it? I believe so..

Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes, the instructions were pretty easy to follow.

What did you particularly like about the pattern? I love the sleeves.. They are so beautiful.

Fabric Used: African Print from the Stash.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: No alteration made. The only thing I did was fold and stitch the tuck before sewing the seam on the sleeves. This made it easier to stitch the tuck and press the sleeves.

Would you sew it again? Yes, I will, but in a small size and maybe a solid color fabric.

Would you recommend it to others? Yes, definitely a must have. It's also trendy.

PATTERN REVIEW: VOGUE PATTERN 1572

Hi Everyone!!! I'm backkkkkkkkkk.. Sorry for being away for literally over a year. Make sure to follow my instagram pages (@SewUrbane and @YetundeSarumi) to see what I've been up to. My plan for 2018 is to make time to sew for myself AND BLOG like I used to.. at least once a month. To be honest, every time I make time to sew for myself, I feel guilty and tell myself that I need to be using that time to work on my clothing brand, YS. There's always something going on with it. But this year it's going to be different... I'm challenging myself to do some Selfish Sewing for ME!

Moving on to this FANCY number... I decided to start the New Year with something GLAM and Classy. The moment I laid my eyes on Vogue Pattern 1572, I knew I was going to make it and also which fabric to look for. I loved the square neckline, peplum, and wide leg pants.

PATTERN REVIEW: V1572

Pattern Description: Close-fitting lined top has front and back peplum and back zipper closure. Semi-fitted pants have side zipper closure

Pattern Sizing: I cut out the Pattern Size 14

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the website once you were done sewing with it? Yes, I think so.

Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes, until it was time to turn the lining for the top inside. The instruction suggested that you stitch the neck edges, armhole edges, and lower edges.. Do Not Stitch the Lower Edges! Instead, after you stitch the neck edges, armhole edges, Turn the lining inside, and THEN stitch the lower edges. I made that mistake and couldn't turn the lining inside, so I had to cut the stitches from the lower edges in order to fix it. So my top ended up being about half an inch shorter.

Decided to cut the hem of the top instead on using a seam ripper. Ain't no body got time for that! 😁

What did you particularly like about the pattern? I love the simplicity of the design. Definitely my kind of style. And it was so comfortable to wear.

Fabric Used: Metallic Tapestry Jacquard Black from Joann's

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I didn't make any pattern alterations or changes except for having to cut the hem of the top, which made it about half an inch shorter.

Would you sew it again? Yes, most definitely. Probably in another fancy jacquard fabric.

Would you recommend it to others? Yes, no regrets.

HOT SUMMER

So this summer was definitely one of those really HOT summers, when you feel like doing nothing because it is soooo hot outside. The day I took these pictures... I literally got dressed because we were supposed to go to an event in DC, then I stepped outside and couldn't breath. The in-between takes of these pictures consist of me trying to catch my breath. And as soon as we were done taking pictures, I turned myself around and went right back inside.. There was no way I was going to that event in that weather. The event was an outside event too..

The top I'm wearing was made by me 2 years ago (Pattern Review).. I wore it on the Philly Fabric Tour with Sassy Sewer. It's a super cute summer top with a crossed back. I paired it with some boy friend short jeans, leather bag I purchased while in Greece, and wedges.

Do What makes You HAPPY and Be Done with All the Rest

Hey Queens! Long time no blog.. If you follow my business Instagram Page, @yetundesarumi, or my snapchat, @sewurbane, you know I've been super busy. It's really hard balancing work, business, blogging, Pretty Girls Sew, YouTube, and hanging out with family/friends. I'm learning to schedule my time and prioritizing what is more important.

Anyways, this dress was sewn a few months ago, but I still wanted to share the details with you. It was a franken pattern using Vogue 8943 and Vogue 9021 as guides. Vogue 8943 is a pattern for fit and flare lace dress, I only used the bodice pattern and the slip pattern; and Vogue 9021 is a pattern for a fitted dress with butterfly sleeves, but I only used the skirt pattern and extended it to my desired length.

When I purchased this fabric in 2014, in Nigeria, I wasn't sure what I wanted to make with it. I finally decided to make a peplum dress that has unfinished neckline and hemline.

In addition to the Bodice and Skirt Pattern, I drafted and added a peplum for a more flattering look. I made the slip significantly shorter than the dress hemline to give it a sexy look. I loved how the whole thing came out.

I styled the dress with a rose gold clutch purse and floral pumps. More pictures below..

Don't Let Your Dreams stay Dreams..

Hi Everyone! Hope you're having a wonderful week so far.. Guess what! I FINALLY started a YouTube channel. Woot woot lol.. It's been a long time coming. I've been wanting to start one but was a bit scared and nervous of putting myself out there in a video form. Also, I wasn't sure which way I'd like to take my channel and I'm still not sure.. But I'm going to try and post as I can and see where it goes.

I've actually posted a couple of video already, which some of you have given me feedback and encouragement on. Thank you for that! :) The whole process is kind of fun for me. Life Would Be Better If We Wore More Tutus...

Happy Friday Everyone! Hope you guys had a wonderful week. My week was cool, it was a busy work week for me, so no sewing got done after work. But one exciting thing happened, I had the privilege of meeting with one of the founders a jewelry and accessories company called, Hanuel. This company is AMAZING and I'm not just talking about their products. Everything they represent and their vision inspired me. During our meeting, they presented me with some of their fabulous statement pieces, which I can't wait to wear. Here is a pic I posted of a few of the items, Here. I might just make something to go them, but I'll definitely let you guys know.

Moving on, on Christmas day my beautiful niece asked me to make her a "Tutu" skirt. I asked her what color she'd liked and of course she said, "Pink." The skirt is pretty easy to make, just layer some tulle on top of a satin circle skirt, add elastic, and voila! you're done. But what's the fun in that? I like testing out patterns and doing reviews, so I decided to use Simplicity Pattern 1816 for her skirt. Below is the pattern review.

Pattern Review: S1816

Pattern Description: Child's & girl's pull on tiered skirts sewing pattern.

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the website once you were done sewing with it? Yes, it does.

Were the instructions easy to follow? The instructions were easy to follow. But I made my own adjustments.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I love that it's an elastic waist skirt. It allows you to tighten and loosen it easily at the waist for a better fit. I did not like the finishing of the waistband. I didn't like that the serged edges will be showing on the in side of the skirt. I like the inside of my garments to be as clean and beautiful as the outside.

Fabric Used: Fuchsia Casa Satin and Matte Tulle from Joann Stores

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: The only alteration/changes I made was at the waistband. I folded the waistband in half, lengthwise. Stitched one of the unfinished edge of the waistband to the skirt at the waist. Pressed 5/8" of the opposite waistband edge, pinned it to the inside of the skirt at the waist. And then stitched in the ditch from the outside.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Yes, I'll definitely sew it again. Maybe a mini maxi version.
