Isaac Mizrahi: Fit & Flare Dress

Pattern Review: Vogue Pattern 1434

"The Flower that Blooms in Adversity is the most Rare and Beautiful of All."

Hi Everyone!! Happy Sunday... Hope you guys are ready to take on the new week ahead. I'm Not.. I need an extra day to do nothing. This weekend has been super busy for me, went to Jersey on Friday, DC on Saturday, and spent the day house shopping in VA on Sunday. I am exhausted!!

Any who, I wanted to share this pattern review post with you before I forget. I made this dress for a friend's wedding, two weeks ago. Her colors were Teal and Cobalt Blue. I decided to make a blue dress because blue goes well with my skin color better that teal does. But I still wanted to incorporate teal, so I lined the skirt of the dress in teal silk fabric. The bodice was self lined (lined with the same fabric as the dress). This pattern is an Isaac Mizrahi design for Vogue patterns. He is one of my favorite designers so when I first saw the pattern, I knew I'll be making it.

I wore a pair of crystal tear drop earrings and bracelet to give me a glam'd up look. The clutch purse also have some crystals on it. I loved my whole look and how I felt in it. I think I did a pretty good job for a dress I made within 24 hours to the wedding... yep, I'm a "last minute sewer," I need to do better tho.

I also put a nice big semi-permanent dot on my dress after I put it on.. I didn't care tho. Lol I was just happy to have something to wear to the wedding. :) BTW.. Shantung is my new favorite fabric.

Pattern Review: V1434

Pattern Description: Lined dress has close-fitting bodice with princess seams, pleated skirt (guide), side pockets, back zipper and thread loops for self belt.

Pattern Sizing: I cut out the Pattern Size 12; view B

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the website once you were done sewing with it? Yes, I think so.. :)

Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes, it's just a lot of pleating but it was worth it.

What did you particularly like about the pattern? The part that I disliked the most when making it is that part that I love the most when it was done.. The Pleats!!!! To be honest, the pleats were not that bad, but because I made this at the last minute for a wedding, it seemed like it took forever. The pleats added a nice detail to a simple fit and flare dress.

Fabric Used: BFF Regal Blue Shantung fabric from Hancock Fabrics

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:  This was a last minute project so I didn't have time to make any alterations. But when I make it again, I'll make sure to shorten the bodice by like 1".

Would you sew it again? Yes, I would. It's a really cute dress. Perfect for weddings, church, or dinner dates.

  4. Decking Gorgeous! Perfect fit. Exactly the right colour for you. And pockets! (I have a long standing affection for decently proportioned pockets.) Your shantung looks a bit softer and more pliable the what we get in Australia.

  5. Beautiful dress! It looks great on you. I had a look at the pattern and pictures on the Vogue Patterns website and the dress looked awful on the models. Thankyou for showing how wonderful it can look.
All dresses should have pockets IMO
