Pretty Girls Sew November Sew-Along

"You Must Make Your Dream a Priority in Order
for it to Become Your Life" - Bob Proctor

Hi everyone! Sorry it has been a minute since I blogged (To keep up with what I've been doing or currently working on, follow me on Instagram: @SewUrbane). I've been super busy with everything else that I haven't even had time to sew. In November, I visited in New Jersey, North Carolina, and Tennessee. I would have taken my sewing machine with me on these trips If I had a way to, trust me. lol But then again the point of taking those trips was to explore the cities and just have fun with friends and family, sewing was not allowed. But anyway, I did participate in Pretty Girls Sew's November Sew-Along, and wanted to share the pattern review with you.

The challenge was to create designer Guy Laroche amazing top from his Fall/Winter 2013-14 collection. To be honest, when PGS co-founder, Miesha, chose this pattern (V1416) as the sew-along for November, I was a bit intimidated by the sleeves. It looked complicated and I thought to myself, "This is not my style". But since I don't like backing down from a challenge, I decided to give it a try and see what happens. I was originally going to make the pants that came with the pattern, but because I took too long to make the top, I opt for a purple pleated skirt I made earlier this year.

I kept my styling simple as always and paired my outfit with a pair of thrifted earrings, leopard print shoes, and a coat I made last year.

Pattern Review: V1416

Pattern Description: Loose-fitting, pullover top has collar (cut on crosswise grain) extending into tie ends, longer than regular length draped, pleated sleeves, and back neck slit.

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes, it does

Were the instructions easy to follow? The instructions were clear and easy to follow.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I like that there were only 5 pattern pieces to cut out. This gives the illusion that it'll be quick to make. lol I love the collar with tie ends and even the sleeves. When you first cut out the sleeve pattern, you'll be intimidated by how big the pattern piece is. It look up the whole pattern paper. The top is amazing though, it's very stylish.

Fabric Used: I used Yellow/White Charmeuse from Fashion Fabrics Club.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I didn't make any alterations or changes. Since it was a loose-fitting top, I measured a similar loose-fitting top I love from my closet so that I can have a perfect fit.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?  Most likely not. Maybe I'll make a shift dress with it (minus the sleeves) next year or something. Yes, I would recommend it to others, it's a pretty cool blouse.
