Go Forth BOLDLY in
The Direction of Your Dreams.

Hi Kings and Queens! First I'd like to thank Vlisco for sending me this amazing fabric from their Bloom Collection. I was so excited when I received an email from them a few months ago asking if they can send me one of their beautiful fabrics. As you know already, I love sewing with wax prints, especially Vlisco, and I'm the "self proclaimed" Ankara Queen. ;) So when they told me that they will choose one of their fabric for me, I knew that I'm going to love which ever fabric they decided to choose for me.

After receiving the fabric, I didn't know what I wanted to make with it. I didn't want to go my usual route and make a dress. I wanted to make something as original and unique as Vlisco fabrics are. So after putting some thoughts into it, I decided that I wanted a pant suit. McCall's Pattern 6711 was my pattern of choice.

Pattern Review: M6711

Pattern Description: Semi-fitted jacket has convertible collar, self-lined front, princess seams, and long sleeves. Tapered pants have side front pockets.

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Kinda, my fabric made it look different.

Were the instructions easy to follow? Surprisingly Yes!

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I like that there were not a lot of pattern pieces to cut out. And the pants was extremely easy and fast to make. I like the fact that the pants have pockets.. I love pockets.

Fabric Used: Wax print from Vlisco.com

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: The only alteration I made was in making the pants fit the way I wanted it. I wanted the loose and boyish. :)

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?  I'll probably make the jacket again, but not the pants.

Fabric: Vlisco || Suit Pattern: M6711 || Earrings: Forever 21 || Top: Super Old || Shoes: Target

Thanks for stopping by. If you decided to sew this pattern or have sewn it, I'd love to see how you you created yours.

  4. I am really feeling that look!!! How awesome. I have wanted to use my wax print, but have been reaching out to others about how to pretreat and maintain the waxy/shine...etc. But, to no avail. Please give more details or suggestions on how to work with and not loose the loveliness that this fabric has to offer. Thanks so much. Andre

    1. Thank you, Andrea! To maintain the shine, the best thing to do is steam press the fabric. I sometimes do that but most of the time, I don't pre-wash or steam it before sewing. I just sew it as is. Also there are different types of wax prints and depending on the quality of the one you get, you might have to only hand wash the fabric. And some can be dry cleaned.
