"Stay in Charge of You
Don't Let the Outside World Control You!"

Hi Everyone! Hope you guys are having an amazing year so far. Mine is going fantastic and I just thank God for everything that has happened in such a short period of time. A couple things to look forward to.. I did a Natural Shoot which I can't wait to share the pictures with you guys and also I may or may not be coming out with an extremely mini (3 items for now) collection in a couple of months. Follow @YetundeSarumi on Instagram to get updates and see a preview of the collection. You'll love it. So great things to look forward to.

So about a couple of months ago, Nita-Jane, a fashion designer and pattern maker at Pattern Fantastique reached out to me asking me to check out their first products/patterns and offered me a complimentary pattern. Thanks Nita-Jane and Ben!! On their online store, they had patterns for two dresses (Aeolian T-Shirt Dress and Celestial Dress) and a pair pants (Terra Pants) available. As soon as I visited their website I knew exactly which pattern I would choose, the Celestial Dress. The Celestial Dress is a simple yet classy and elegant dress. I fell in love with it mainly because of the Sleeves and the fact that it's a trapeze dress. This means I can be free and don't have to suck my stomach in when I wear it. #winning!

Pattern Review: Celestial Dress

Pattern Description: The Celestial dress is a pull on trapeze style dress. With length options from top to maxi. An above bust yoke line. Top stitched, hip pockets and neck facings. A folded sleeve edge, so no sleeve hem finish required. The sleeves can be worn cuffed.

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the website once you were done sewing with it? Yes, it does. But I made the mini version.

Were the instructions easy to follow? The instructions were extremely easy to follow. Nita-Jane & Ben did an excellent job with describing each step. The also suggested different ways to finish the inside of your garments.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I actually have no dislikes but below are what I love about the pattern..

- You can get 3 different length dresses and 1 top out of this pattern. The pattern can make a mini, midi, and maxi dress.
- It has side seam pockets and you don't have to cut out the pocket pattern separately. It's already part of the dress pattern when you cut it.
- There were only 7 Pattern pieces to cut out. This makes it easier to sew.
- The instructions are very detailed
- It has mini pattern maps that guides you when taping the PDF pieces together.
- I didn't have to print out a thousand copies of paper. Their patterns are designed to use less paper.

Fabric Used: I used Ankara / Wax Print / African fabric.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I didn't make any changes to the pattern. I chose to make the mini version of the dress and wore the sleeves un-cuffed.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?  Most definitely. It'll be perfect for spring and summer. I'll also try to make the maxi version.

  3. Great work and it looks fantastic on you. Do you know if the maxi needs to be made with wide width fabric. Dying to make the maxi in a nani iro double gauze, but afraid if might not be wide enough....
