Bias Tape without a Bias Tape Maker

3.27.2013

A couple of weeks ago, I decided to make my very first top. I chose a "Very Easy Vogue" pattern (Vogue V8815) as my practice pattern, especially because it's for a peplum top. The pattern was pretty easy to make until I got to the neck area and needed a bias tape. I could have purchased a bias tape, but since I was using a printed fabric, I wanted everything to match. I learned how to make bias tape in sewing class (The Sassy Sewer) so I knew I could do it.

In my attempt to make a bias tape, I realize that I do not have a bias tape maker. But thanks to the Internet, I was able to do some research and find out how to make a bias tape (without a bias tape maker). See the pics below.. Enjoy!

Happy DIY Sewing!

Draping 101 / Pattern Making

3.11.2013

Yesterday, I was privileged to learn from one of my favorite designers, Solome Katongole. She taught me a lot about draping, pattern making, and even about the fashion industry/business. I thank God for the opportunity and I can't wait to learn more from her.

Below, you'll see the pattern for a strapless bodice I will be making soon. :)

Kente Skirt w/ Sash

3.06.2013

At the beginning of February, I decided that I wanted to challenge myself even more. I decide that I'll start doing one challenge a month and sew/make something new outside of what I'm already working on in my sewing class.

While trying to figure out what to make, I came across a Maxi Skirt tutorial that stood out to me, so I decided that it would be my "February Challenge". I used this Ghanaian Fabric called Kente I saw at Joann Fabric. I knew it would be perfect for the skirt and different. Instead of making the maxi skirt, I decide to make the skirt knee length. Loved it!!! I wore it to church and was so exited to show it off.

A week later, my mom wanted me to make her one with the same fabric.

Fabric: Joann Fabric (purchased 3 yards)
