DIY Off Shoulder High Low Dress | November Pretty Girls Sew Sew-Along

This pattern was chosen by Pretty Girls Sew for the November Sew-Along challenge. The goal was to make something for a holiday party. The pattern required knit fabric and it was pretty easy to make.

One day while I was at work, I was thinking about the pattern and how I can change it up. I decided to just sketch it out and see what comes out of it. Below is what I ended up sketching on a post-it..

I wore the dress to the Death by Vanity event by Wear It Out Baltimore (WIOB). This was my first fashion event in Baltimore. Thanks to a fellow Sew Sister, Coco, for the invite. :) It was a great event and I met some amazing people the men behind Christopher Schafer Clothier. Looking forward to the next WIOB event.

Pattern Review (M6462)

Description: Lined dress has close-fitting bodice extending into straps, side pockets and back zipper.

Fabric Used: Black Stretched Pleather Neoprene (Sold Out) and Stretch Plaid. Both from GorgeousFabrics.com

Pattern Sizing: I cut out a Size 10

Were the Instructions easy to follow? Yes, they were. After I completed the bodice, I stop following the instructions.

Likes or Dislikes about the Pattern: The pattern is great. It was so easy to follow. And I think it's great from beginners. It was easy to adjust and it fits perfectly on the body.

Pattern Alterations or Design Changes made: Yes!! Yes!! Yes!!! Lol This was my favorite part. I knew I wanted to change the skirt of the pattern because I didn't like the length. I wanted something that's more me, which is Peplums and Pencil Skirts. I've also been learning and reading about how to alter commercial patterns, so this gave me the opportunity to put what I've learned into works.

(This probably won't make sense, but feel free to ask questions if you get lost with my description below. Next time, I'll take pictures of the process. ;))

The pattern has two skirt pattern pieces to cut out (front skirt and back skirt). I taped them both together at the side seam to make one pattern piece. I then taped the pattern piece to the pattern tracing paper, which gave me the width of the skirt from center front to center back. I measured and marked 10" for the center front, 14" for the side seam, and 19" for the center back. Then I pretty much connected the dots to get a High Low Skirt pattern. I then cut my pattern draft at the side seam (to make 2 pattern pieces like the original pattern pieces) and added 5/8" seam allowance.

After completing the dress, I then made a pencil skirt to wear under it. :)..

Would you Sew it again? Maybe for someone else.. I don't need another one.
