Serving GOD by serving others...

8.20.2009

One thing I know is that God wants us to serve others with our lives. This might sound like an easy thing to do for some people, but we all know that it's not always easy. Sometimes we get caught up with our needs and wants that we ignore what God's purpose for us are. God wants us to live a life of service, helping other as much as we can. I believe that I was put on this earth to be a servant, to use my time, money, experience, and life to help others. I say this because when I help people, I feel Alive and Accomplished. I feel closer and closer to God and I love it.

About a month ago, I joined an organization called Fairfax Area Christian Emergency & Transitional Services, Inc. (FACETS), as a volunteer. Today was my first day actually volunteering with them. We did a 'Back to School Drive Party' for the kids, ranging from Kindergarten to College. We had book bags, binders, notebooks, pens, coloring pencils, and any other school supplies you can think of. Seeing the smiles on the kids' faces and their parents' faces warms my heart. I was happy and proud to be one of the volunteers to help these kids. That was the highlight of my day. Helping others should be something we naturally do, not because of the personal rewards, but because it can change another persons life in a positive way.

We should serve God by serving others. Remember, Jesus didn't come here to be served, but he came to serve and give his life. Rick Warren said, "If you aren’t serving, you’re just existing, because life is meant for ministry God wants you to learn to love and serve others unselfishly." So think of ways you can serve others and serve God. :)

God's Angel

8.19.2009

Today was an okay day. Went to work and came back home, just the usual. The highlight of my day was when a friend of mine, Jamie L. W., commented on my facebook page saying the following...

"Thank You Deb! You truly are Gods Angel...Your always smiling no matter what you are going through! You are so genuine and such a sweetheart! So I thank you for being you, and an inspiration to me! I miss you! Love you too!"

...After reading that comment, I got teary-eyed. That was one of the nicest things anyone has ever said to me. I really try to live my life according to God's plan and show God's love to everyone I come across, especially with my smile. That comment just reminded me that, you never know who's watching you to see how you handle life situations. I am just thankful that God has allowed me to be able to inspire others and touch people's lives in a positive way. I am not perfect and I have made some mistakes, but I believe that the way I handle my mistakes is what's important. Thank you, Jamie, for that comment, you made my day. :) I thank God for all his blessings and I give him ALL the glory.
