Peplum Jacket: Burberry Inspired

This fabulous Peplum Jacket was made for the Pretty Girls Sew January-February Sew-Along. I love everything about it, but the funny thing is that I almost put it aside and not finish it. It was taking me forever to make because I didn't really have the time. Also, I like instant gratification, I like to start and finish whatever I'm making quickly and move on to the next thing. I wasn't getting that from this garment, so I kept setting it aside and making other things.

The Inspiration:

First, I would like to say that I am so glad I know how to sew... The idea to mix these 2 fabrics together came from a Burberry Peplum Crop Jacket I saw on Instagram a few months ago. I researched it and found out that it was sold for $2,672 (Here) and $2,495 (Here). Since there's no way I'm paying that much for a Jacket, I save the picture in the "Design Inspiration" album on my phone.

My Version:

Pattern Review (V8866)

Description: Loose-fitting, lined jacket has collar, shoulder pads, waist tucks, welts, self-lined flounce, sleeves with stitched hem and belt.

Fabric Used: All the fabric used were from MoodFabrics.com (first time). I used Beige Solid Suiting and Fine Wool Houndstooth Tweed in Tan for the Jacket. And used Maroon Silk Crepe de Chine for the lining.

Pattern Sizing: I cut out a size 8.. I could have taken it in a few more inches, but it's supposed to be a loose-fitting jacket so I left it a little loose.

Were the Instructions easy to follow? They probably are, but I read it wrong when it came to cutting the flounce. There was a small circle on each flounce pattern that was suppose to be stitching lines, but I ended up making it a cutting line. But other than that, The instructions were straight forward.

Likes or Dislikes about the Pattern: I like the design a lot because I'm a big fan of peplums and flounces. No dislikes.

Pattern Alterations or Design Changes made: No big Alterations or Changes. Since I cut out the flounce where I wasn't supposed to, I had to gather it at the waist. But it was okay because it gave the flounce a little bit more volume. I also added belt loops on the side seams.

Would you Sew it again? Probably Not.

Shout out to The Man at Olumaechi.com for taking my pictures. xo

  5. Beautiful work. I'm the same way when it comes to sewing; instant gratification. However, I'm not nearly as advanced as you. Great job!
