My First DIY Aso Ebi

Vogue Pattern 8849 Misses'/Misses' Petite Dress

Hi Loves..

First I'd like to explain what Aso Ebi means... Aso Ebi are outfits made from matching fabric to be worn by a group of people (family/friends) to an event. The event could be a wedding, engagement, birthday party, naming ceremony and so on.. The Aso Ebi fabric are chosen by the celebrant. I wore my Aso Ebi to one of my best friends' Nigerian traditional wedding. Another Aso Ebi was sewn (by Me) for the wedding ceremony and reception the next day (post coming soon).

Polka Dots Gathered Skirt

6.19.2013

Sorry that I haven't posted anything in a while... I've been a little busy (more like vacationing) to post on the site. ;) But I have been posting a lot on Instagram, so follow me there (@SewUrbane) if you have an IG account.

This post is about a Polka Dot skirt I made back in April, I believe. I wanted something vintage and fun so I thought why not make something with polka dots.

Anyway, with the help of my lil sis, I found this awesome brown and white polka dot fabric at Joann Fabric. It was in the Quilting Fabrics section. The skirt was pretty easy to make because this was my third time making it (see "Skirt w/ Sash"), except this time, I didn't add the belt loops and sash. The skirt has pockets on the sides.

I wore the skirt to church the following Sunday and the funny thing is, a fellow Sassy Sewer Student (Biodun aka ABs) from my Sewing Class also wore her Level 1 skirt to church. We were so proud to be rocking out DiY skirts. I'm so proud of ABs and her work. Glad she loves sewing just as much as I do. :)
